Museumboard
Museumboard — The highest standard in conservation framing
When artwork needs to last for generations, only museumboard will do. It is the gold standard in conservation framing — used by professional framers, museums and archivists worldwide to protect works of art, historic documents and irreplaceable photographs for the long term.
What is museumboard?
Museumboard is a layered mountboard made up of multiple layers of equal thickness and colour, pressed tightly together. Unlike standard mountboard, which uses a wood pulp core, museumboard is made from either alpha cellulose (Royal Moorman Karton) or 100% cotton (Peterboro Matboards). It is fully acid-free and chlorine-free, available in various thicknesses.
This layered structure ensures that every cut edge reveals the same consistent colour throughout — a hallmark of true conservation-grade material.
Available colours
Museumboard is available in different thicknesses and the following colours:
-
White, off-white and black (Royal Moorman Karton and Peterboro)
-
Natural, ivory, cream, soft grey, light grey & antracite (Royal Moorman Karton)
Beyond framing
The same conservation properties that make museumboard ideal for picture framing also make it the material of choice for acid-free archive boxes and photo albums — anywhere long-term preservation matters.
