Picture framing course

Learn the basics of professional picture framing in 5 days 

A workshop for picture framers who wish expand their knowledge, but also for beginners. The course is run by Jean Salgaro who has 30 years' experience as a professional framer. The course comprises a series of short technical demos followed by practice sessions. This gives you the opportunity to put what Jean teaches you immediately into practice.

The framing course will cover: 

  • cutting of wooden mouldings and aluminium profiles

  • preparing and assembling the mouldings

  • glass cutting and types of glass

  • preparing backing board and types of board

  • mountcutting

  • use of mounting tape

  • various types of mount: French bevel, reverse bevel, ...

  • mount decoration and waxed mounts

  • wood frame decoration (staining, waxing, etc.) - new: use of various wood types

  • restoration of aged or damaged frames

  • use and application of self-adhesive products

  • use of adhesives: 'do's and don'ts'

  • canvas and fabric stretching - new: fabric stretching for 3D frames

  • mounting etchings, aquarelles, …

  • specialty frames: double-sided frames, box frames,... - new: framing objects

  • sales techniques

  • new: mounting and framing with DIBOND 

  • useful tips from 25 years of craftsmanship

  • etc., … (to be filled in by the participants)
